Privacy Policy

Overview

Ember is a fitness and nutrition app. We collect the information needed to create your account, personalize the app, save your data, improve reliability, and provide AI-powered features.

What We Collect

• Account information such as your email address and optional display name.
• Profile and goal data such as units preference, weight, height, date of birth, dietary preferences, allergies, restrictions, and nutrition goals.
• App content you create, including food logs, workouts, routines, weigh-ins, journal entries, and chat conversations.
• Health data you choose to share from Apple Health, such as steps, sleep, and weight.
• Notes the AI coach saves about your preferences and goals (memories), used to personalize its replies.
• Photos you choose to attach to your chats or food log, and camera input you use to scan barcodes.
• Approximate location, only when you turn on location sharing in your profile, to add location context to your chats.
• Usage, analytics, and diagnostic data that help us understand product usage and investigate issues.
• Sign-in email metadata needed to deliver one-time login codes.

How We Use Data

• To authenticate you and keep your account signed in.
• To save and sync your food, workout, profile, and goal data.
• To power AI coaching and chat features you choose to use.
• To give AI assistants you connect to Ember access to the data you authorize (see Connected AI Assistants).
• To send sign-in codes by email.
• To monitor reliability, diagnose crashes, and improve the app.

Service Providers

Ember uses third-party service providers to operate key parts of the product. This currently includes Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI for AI features, Resend for sign-in emails, PostHog for product analytics, and Sentry for crash and error monitoring.

Connected AI Assistants

You can connect Ember to an AI assistant, such as ChatGPT or Claude, so it can work with your Ember data. Nothing is shared until you sign in to Ember and approve the connection. The approval screen shows what the assistant can access, and you choose whether it can only read your data or also change it.

The Ember plugin for ChatGPT can access your food log, nutrition totals and targets, workouts, routines, steps, weigh-ins, timezone, and units. It cannot access your coach memories, journal, chat conversations, date of birth, sex, allergies, or location. Other assistants connected directly to Ember can access the data categories listed on the approval screen.

Data Ember returns to an assistant is handled under that assistant provider's privacy policy. Ember records which assistant you connected and which actions it used, but not the content of your requests. You can disconnect an assistant at any time under Settings > Connected apps on emberfitness.app. Access stops immediately, but disconnecting does not remove information already shown in that assistant's conversations.

Data Retention

We keep your account data, including everything you log, for as long as your account exists, so your history stays available to you. You can delete individual entries at any time. When you delete your account, Ember permanently deletes your data after 72 hours, as described below. Access granted to a connected AI assistant expires after 30 days without use, and ends immediately when you disconnect it or delete your account. Analytics and diagnostic data are kept by our service providers for their standard retention periods.

Account Deletion

You can request account deletion from inside the app. When you do, Ember signs you out immediately and schedules permanent deletion after 72 hours. If you sign back in with the same email during that window, your account can be restored before final deletion.

Data Sharing And Sale

Ember does not sell your personal information. We share data only with the service providers needed to run the product and only to the extent required for those services.

We may update this policy as Ember changes. When we do, we will update the effective date on this page.
