What your coach can do
Ember's coach isn't just a chatbot that talks about fitness — it has real tools it uses on your behalf during a conversation. When you see the coach "working" in chat, it's using one of these. This page is the honest, complete list.
Food & nutrition
- Log food you describe or photograph, with calorie and macro estimates — and edit or delete entries when you correct it.
- Look back at what you've eaten — list entries for any day, search your past logged foods by name (so "the usual smoothie" reuses your own numbers), and pull daily totals including micronutrients like fiber, sodium, and iron.
- See your daily steps and set activity targets.
Weight
- Log your weigh-ins when you mention them ("184 this morning") and track your trend over time.
Workouts & routines
- Log strength workouts and cardio, list your history, and fix past entries.
- See and update your live gym session — mid-workout you can tell it "swap in lat pulldowns" or "what did I squat last time?" and it works with your active session.
- Browse the exercise catalogue by name, muscle group, or equipment.
- Create, edit, and delete routines — "build me a 3-day push/pull/legs" produces a real saved routine.
Profile, goals & memory
- Update your profile (weight, height, dietary preferences, allergies) and set your nutrition targets when you agree on new numbers.
- Save memories — durable facts you share (preferences, habits, health notes, schedule) so future conversations start informed. It can also search and delete them. See What Ember remembers.
Finding things & analysis
- Search your past conversations — "what did we decide about my cutting protein?" searches your actual chat history and reads the surrounding context.
- Analyze your data — for questions the dashboards don't answer ("average protein on weekends vs. weekdays?"), the coach can run a read-only query over your own data.
- Draw charts in chat — line, bar, or area charts of things like weight trend or weekly protein.
- Search the web — for published nutrition facts on branded and restaurant items, or up-to-date information.
What it can't do
Just as important:
- It only sees your data. Every tool is scoped to your account — the coach cannot read or touch any other user's information.
- It can't spend your money. No tool can purchase, change, or cancel subscriptions.
- Analysis is read-only. The only writes it can make are the concrete actions above (log, edit, save), and each one is visible in the chat as it happens.
- It won't diagnose. Medical questions get general guidance and a pointer to a professional, by design.
If the coach ever logs something wrong, you don't need a support ticket — just tell it, and it will use the same tools to fix the entry. Everything is also editable by hand on the food dashboard.
